Intervarsity under attack

It seems constitutional rights haven't been very popular lately. Now even college ministries like InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, one of the oldest college ministries in the world, are being persecuted in America--the supposed bastion of Christianity.

They've been kicked off the University of Wisconsin-Superior campus because they require their leaders to sign a statement demanding they be christians. Go figure.

This seems pretty rediculous. Please pray for Justice.

What the University of Wisconsin did is ridiculous and wrong - but in my opinion, it doesn't show discrimination against the program or against Christians.

I'd think it was most likely just a good example of how bureaucratic any University is. There's probably a charter regulation that states something along the lines of "no organization based on campus should have any restrictions on membership or leadership positions based on race, religion, nationality, or sex.", and an individual brought it to the board's attention that this group "violates core university principles and discriminates against those practicing another religion" - and successfully got this group thrown out.

I personally think this is a real chance for reform in that university, if the Christian group points out how unreasonable the expulsion was.

Simply the result of America being a post-Christian nation. More of this is to come in the future.

InterVarsity is taking them to court. We'l have to see how this shapes out. It's just sad because IV has been on that campus for about 50 years.

An interesting case -- I first heard of it from Aaron Romanick.

I just went ahead and signed up for a new site. I'm still going to dig up Barth's, but I figure that since both you AND Brian are on Blogger, that I'd go ahead and hop on board as well.
